All news & insights

Norvic supported the team at Epic Studios in Norwich during Wilder Fight Night in March 2026. Our social report described a live boxing event bringing together fighters, supporters and officials, with security duties spanning entry, restricted areas, observation and departure. We were proud to contribute alongside the venue team. The occasion provided another example of the coordination required when a familiar events space hosts a programme with its own participants, working areas and audience expectations.

Understand the event, not just the building

A venue may host several kinds of event, but the security brief should reflect the programme taking place that evening. A boxing event has participants and officials whose movements and working requirements differ from those of the audience. Personnel need to understand the areas relevant to their duties and the process for checking a request that falls outside the normal arrangement.

The original post listed controlled entry, queue management, bag checks and access control among Norvic’s roles. It also described ringside and VIP monitoring, backstage protection, crowd observation, de-escalation and structured dispersal. Setting out those responsibilities gives a clearer picture of the assignment while leaving the detailed operational plan with the people responsible for delivering it.

Establish clear access arrangements

An access check is easier to carry out well when the team knows what information is reliable. Organisers should explain how authorised people are identified and who can resolve uncertainty. Different working areas may have different expectations. Personnel should not have to infer someone’s role from their confidence, familiarity with the venue or relationship with another visitor.

Clear arrangements also support courteous communication. An officer can explain the process and make an appropriate check without turning a routine query into an unnecessary confrontation. Consistency helps participants, guests and staff understand what is happening. It also reduces the risk of different entrances or shifts operating from incompatible assumptions.

Keep communication connected

Our account recognised the coordination between Epic Studios and the Norvic team. In any live sporting event, the programme can create several simultaneous demands. A useful communication structure allows relevant observations to reach the person who can consider the wider picture. It should be clear who is supervising each part of the assigned work.

Location descriptions deserve attention too. A phrase that seems obvious to someone familiar with the building may be unclear to a supporting colleague. Briefings should establish references that the team can use consistently. This helps when a supervisor needs to understand where assistance is being requested without interrupting the person reporting for repeated clarification.

Professionalism around an energetic occasion

Live sport can produce excitement, disappointment and strong expressions of support. Security personnel need to remain measured and attentive throughout. The presence of emotion does not itself establish that someone presents a problem. An appropriate response depends on what is happening, the context and the arrangements agreed for the event.

Calm communication can help clarify expectations and address concerns before they become more difficult. Personnel should understand their own boundaries and when to involve a supervisor or another service. A professional operation supports those decisions through preparation and teamwork, rather than relying on individual confidence or an unnecessarily forceful manner.

Consider welfare as part of the plan

People may need assistance for reasons unrelated to a disagreement. Someone can become separated from their companions, feel unwell or need help finding an appropriate member of staff. Security officers should know how to direct those requests within the event’s arrangements. Being able to recognise a need for assistance is different from assuming responsibility for every form of support.

Medical, safeguarding and venue-management roles should be understood alongside security duties. A clear route to the appropriate person helps the team respond constructively while respecting competence and privacy. These are general considerations for event planning; they should be established for the particular occasion rather than copied from another venue’s programme.

Plan the final transition

Our Wilder Fight Night post included safe dispersal among the reported duties. Departure is a stage of the operation in its own right. The audience, participants and staff may leave at different times, while work continues in parts of the venue. Personnel need to understand when their duties change and what information should be handed over.

The experience remains part of Norvic’s record of supporting Norwich’s sporting and entertainment events. We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside venue teams who value coordination and clear responsibilities. If you are planning a combat-sport occasion or another live event, tell us about the setting, programme and support required. We can discuss an appropriate security brief that takes account of arrival, the event itself and the final handover, with professional communication throughout. A useful enquiry starts with the programme and the areas needing support. Clear, accurate information helps establish the right duties, contacts and preparation for the people attending.
