First aiders come to refresher training with different levels of recent practice. You may use your skills regularly, or you may have had little opportunity to revisit them since your original course. Explain your current responsibilities and the reason for your enquiry so the discussion can focus on the update you need and the appropriate training route.
Have the title and completion date of your existing qualification available when you contact us. Check the dates shown on your certificate rather than relying on memory, particularly if your employer is arranging several bookings together. An annual skills update and a course intended to renew an expiring qualification serve different purposes, so establish which requirement you need to address.
Think about the areas of your existing learning where you would value another opportunity to practise or ask questions. This might be communicating clearly during an incident, remembering the sequence taught on your previous course or feeling more comfortable using skills in front of other people. Describe the learning need without trying to diagnose a medical issue or recount identifiable patient information.
Your workplace experience can provide useful context. Perhaps the layout has changed, you now work with a different team or the way colleagues request assistance is unfamiliar. Ask how your questions relate to the proposed refresher content. The confirmed syllabus determines the learning provided, so check rather than assume that a particular topic or exercise will be included.
Before booking, ask about the practical activities, assessment arrangements and anything you should bring. Knowing what participation involves helps you raise relevant questions in advance. If you have access, language or learning support needs, discuss them with the team so you understand what arrangements can be considered for the session being proposed.
Once the details are confirmed, allow time to read any joining information and check the location and timetable. If your employer is making the booking, make sure that information reaches each learner rather than only the person handling the administration. A clear understanding of the day makes it easier to arrive prepared and concentrate on the practical learning.
For group enquiries, gather the learners' existing qualification details and identify any different completion dates before asking about availability. Some colleagues may need a skills refresher while others need a separate discussion about renewal. Sorting those requirements early helps avoid placing everyone on the same course simply because they work together or are available on the same day.
After attending, keep the training information with your other first aid records and discuss any remaining questions with the person responsible for workplace arrangements. Review how the learning connects with the instructions and communication routes used at your site. If your role or setting has changed substantially, raise that when planning future training instead of assuming the previous arrangement still meets the need.
